Folk handicrafts in Poland have a centuries-old history. Religion has always been a very important element of traditional Polish art, as religious motifs can be found in art created in many different regions of Poland, such as traditional glass paintings originating from Kashubia. Wood, as a natural material, could be found in many huts back in the day and was used to craft a variety of everyday use products. Podhale specializes in its traditional carving in the form of "rosettes" and plant motifs. The most popular throughout Poland was and still is embroidery, for example flat embroidery in Łowicz or a variety of different kinds of embroidery coming from Kashubia. Beautiful Zalipie patterns can be found on many cottages in this region. Many folk patterns decorated old furniture, dowry chests and other kinds of furniture.
